Why We Love Ann St. Church – By Jewel and Tom Myers
When we retired we couldn’t decide where to live! Here or in Va. We had a wonderful church up there, Trinity UMC, where we worked and worshiped for 40 years, raised our children, sang, married our daughter, etc.! We thought we couldn’t leave it but we wanted to live in Beautiful Beaufort! So here we are at Ann St. You took us right in. We felt loved, wanted, cared for. We feel like one of you! Thank you, You’re the Best!
Yes, we love our beautiful Sanctuary where we feel uplifted just walking into it! Yes, we love our fine Pipe Organ played so beautifully by Kandice and the lovely Grand Piano which I feel so privileged to play. We love the choir, so ably directed by Joe. We love Taylor and his wonderful Bible Study on Tuesdays and on Sundays the way he reads the Gospel and then explains it to us. We love his gentle demeanor; the way he talks to us instead of preaching at us. His sermons are just intellectual enough for Tom but not too intellectual for me!! I always have something from them to take home with me for the week ahead. And he is so good at Pastoring; so good and kind and understanding.
But most of all Ann St. is “The People” All of you, Fran and our Sunday School class; so warm and friendly, always so interesting. My circle, “it is the Best”! Miss Joyce, how we will miss her. Harriett, Cynthia, Laura Lee, have all been so good to me. When Emma, our granddaughter, came for the summer and just happened to sit by Sheila in church. They made friends right off and now keep in touch through me asking about each other, sending love to each other. And all my friends in choir; our Soprano Movie Day with Margaret, Saundra, Signe. Oh we do let John come! He is the only man allowed since he is so nice and he is our projectionist since he knows how to work the DVD player! And look how many wonderful things he does for Ann St.!
The Early Bird Prayer Group are the greatest, most faithful Prayer Warriors on the face of the Earth. They have prayed me through heart repairs and they prayed Emma home when she was brought home by American Univ. from her Jr. semester abroad in New Zealand because of the virus. It was an 18 hr. flight over the Pacific in a crowded airplane. I cried the whole time but their prayers brought her safely home. They are the Best.
And thank you, Tony, again and again for driving the bus on Wonderful Wednesdays that year we had the Children’s Choir. There were only 6 of them but what a great group and Kerry came along and some other grandchildren; so sweet. And Emma, so bright and such a good artist and so good at turning pages for me no matter how difficult the music.
Ann Davis, when I first came, was President of UMW and chairperson of the Bazaar. She was so good, so wonderful, so effective at everything. I’ve always looked up to her! Yes, the Church is the People. We love the Pictorial Directory since we don’t know everyone; but every time I pick it up to look for someone I think, “Here is the most wonderful church in the universe” There everyone is-the church we love so much.
The Song We Sing:
The church is not the Preacher
The church is not the Steeple
The church is no the Building
The Church is the People
Did I get the words right? Close enough!
I Am the Church:
I am the church, you are the church,
we are the church together!
All who follow Jesus, all around the world,
Yes we’re the church together.
Thank you Ann St.

P.S. And Julia, boy are we lucky to have her! Sometimes Neva stops in and brings us candy! I love my Prayer Shawl. It’s so comforting.
